Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy
“To work with living mechanisms in a living body, we need living palpatory skills.”
Dr. Rollin E. Becker, D.O.
What happens in a session?
In most cases, your session will begin with you and your therapist sitting down and discussing your health concerns and needs for the session.
During the session you remain fully clothed lying on a comfortable padded table. Your therapist will start by gently touching various areas of your body to monitor the rhythm of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), which circulates throughout your central nervous system, as well as the fluid movement in your cells and tissues. The “potency” in the fluids creates a tide-like motion, which can be felt anywhere on the body by the practitioner.
For evaluation and the therapeutic process, a delicate and “listening” touch is used. Self-correction occurs from within by connecting to the client’s body’s inherent health and wisdom, and sites of inertia (trapped health) dissolve. The entire system can unwind and release.
Your therapist may inquire from time to time about your current experience. You may feel sensations of warmth, softening, buzzing, tingling, floating, expansion, memories or insights may occur, or you may relax so deeply that you fall asleep.
Emotional traumas may arise on occasion, which will be safely supported through verbal guidance. The therapist will help you stay present with whatever you’re going through. Staying present with internal sensations and resources, will have beneficial and regulatory effect on the physiology and nervous system. It supports self-regulation, raises self-awareness and is an empowering technique, which can be utilized outside of sessions to help cope with stressful situations.
Each session can be rather different. Some days you may sleep for several hours following a session, while on others you may notice a significant gain in energy. After the session, the healing process continues. It is possible that what happened during the session was quite subtle, but then you notice over the next few days, that your system has integrated further and symptoms have gone away or have eased.
A BCST session can last up to an hour or more. It can be used on its own or in combination with other treatments.
